The Opal card is Sydney’s new travel buddy allowing commuters to travel around Sydney and surrounding areas with just one card.
The card will need to be swiped on each form of transport when you board and when you get off, always make sure you swipe when you get off or the system will presume you are still on the transport and charge you for the entire journey route.
The cost of the fare will be deducted and when your funds are getting low the card will automatically recharge from your bank account alternatively you are able to recharge at an Opal card retailer.
By the end of 2014 the Opal card will have replaced all paper tickets on buses, trains, ferries and light rail.
