Sydney made TripAdvisor’s top ten travel destinations this year for good reason. Sure, in part it has a lot to do with the beaches and the Opera House. But there’s also an incredible culture and lively atmosphere that renders it pretty unique. Throughout the year, there are a number of activities that take place for plenty of ways to experience the city and stay entertained. December is often considered one of the best times of the year for plenty of ways to celebrate the season.
1. The Lion King
For one of the most acclaimed performances in the world, The Lion King will be at Capitol Theatre on December 5th for a riveting theatrical event that will make for a must-see. The family-friendly performance includes several musical hit songs from the Disney film for an exciting night spent in the city. Tickets start at $50.
2. Ansel Adams – Photography From the Mountains to the Sea
For those who want to view a gallery filled with photography, Ansel Adam’s best pieces can be seen at the Australian National Maritime Museum. With over 70 prints on display, there will be much to explore in the exhibit from one of the most famous photographers in the world. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children.
3. Etsy Christmas Pop-Up Shop
Known as one of the most popular marketplaces to shop online for handmade goods, Etsy is bringing their products to Sydney at 74 Castlereagh Street from November 28th to December 12th. The shop will be open daily and will offer a wide variety of jewelry, home decor, clothing, children’s goods, and vintage items, making for a great place to find Christmas gifts.
4. Kids Create – Christmas Treats
If you’re traveling with family, what better way to celebrate the season than with a cooking class for kids? The class will be held on December 18th at Kings Cross Library for a fun way to make no-bake holiday treats that can be snacked on in the class and taken home. The event is free for all children who attend.
5. Kings Cross Organic Food Market
Every Saturday morning in the month of December is when the local farmers market is held at Fitzfroy Gardens where certified food is sold. A variety of different organic foods will be available to purchase from local vendors who sell coffee, cheese, cakes, and fresh produce for a great place to do the grocery shopping.
