Getting around Canberra
Being a ‘planned city’, getting around Canberra is easy and enjoyable
Visitors can take a public bus, a taxi or a tour. You can be on the other side of Canberra in just forty minutes, or alternately, drive yourself around in confidence as the traffic is generally never a problem and easy to negotiate. Parking in Canberra is cheaper than other major capital cities. Average daily fees are between $8 and $12 per day. Most national attractions have free parking. Many shopping malls offer free parking for the first two hours. Canberra has an enviable network of cycle and walking paths. Canberra Airport is located only 8 minutes from Canberra City, east of the city’s famous Lake Burley Griffin. An Airport Express shuttle bus operates to and from Canberra International Airport, Russell and Canberra city centre. Taxis and hire cars are also readily available. Visitors can check out Canberra’s major tourist sites and suburbs on a local ACTION Bus. Alternately take a tour on a hop-on-hop-off bus.
